Everyone knows of a story where the occasion planner took over the preparations and left the client wondering what on earth happened to her dream event. You know they're expensive, unnecessary and only for celebrities and the rich or lazy. But here’s the thing – it's all lies!!
Occasion planners are frequently featured in the media and in films, but there is still ambiguity around what occasion planners actually do. Ever seen the film “The Wedding Planner” and thought what do they actually do or why should I pay for someone to do something that I can easily do myself?
Let me dispel the myth...
One of the most common myths about our work is the glamour surrounding our days, that we spend them reading magazines, choosing colour napkins or visiting venues and enjoying culinary tasting sessions. Whilst there is some truth in this and it is involved, if you ask any planner to describe their daily work they will tell you that the majority of their time is filled up with administration.
The essence of an occasion planner is to take the pressure out of occasion planning. Organising any occasion should be fun and exciting, but takes up a lot of time and can be extremely stressful. Juggling life's commitments mean that you’re probably working on the occasion in the evenings and at weekends, researching suppliers, visiting venues, working out a budget and trying to find those perfect items that ‘you know you’ve seen somewhere’.
